Governance and transition to a circular economy in Public Water Services

The UNESCO Chair on Sustanability - UPC at Technical University of Catalunya and SDU.Resilience at the University of Southern Denmark organized the side event “Governance and transition to a circular economy in Public Water Services” at the IWA World Water Congress & Exhibition. Prof. Nicola Tollin moderated the session including presentations and a panel discussion with Prof. Jordi Morato, Head of program for Resilient and Sustainable City Solutions at City of Copenhagen Lykke Leonardsen, International Water Expert Jose Luis Martin Bordes, and the Senior Researcher Carlos A. Arias.


The discussion focused on #barriers and #opportunities for a circular transition of public #water services, specifically in relation to climate change #mitigation and #adaptation, highlighting the importance of a nexus approach considering in a systemic manner, water, energy, food and ecosystems, moreover, highlighting the importance of #policy and #legislation and multi-level #governance, integrating national policies and local action. Last but not least the discussion stressed the importance of appropriate #technologies, including nature-based solutions and traditional knowledge.
