SureNexus Partners Convene for Face-to-Face Meeting at INRA Headquarters in Rabat

On February 10th, the SureNexus project team held a pivotal one-day meeting at the INRA Headquarters in Rabat, Morocco. The SureNexus project, an initiative led by the UNESCO Chair on Sustainability at UPC, aims to harness innovative solutions for the integrated management of water, energy, food, and ecosystems (WEFE Nexus), fostering sustainability and resilience in the face of global challenges.


This gathering represented a key milestone in fostering collaboration among consortium members, seamlessly integrating in-person and virtual participation to advance the SureNexus mission. Held in a conference room equipped with streaming technology, the meeting ensured broad engagement by enabling both on-site and remote attendees to contribute effectively.


The meeting brought together 23 in-person participants representing nine partner organizations: UPC (Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya), INRA (National Institute of Agricultural Research), UNIVPM (Università Politecnica delle Marche), NTUA (National Technical University of Athens), AGENSO, KKL, REMTEC, CTPC, and PLANET. Additional partners joined virtually, fostering a collaborative environment.




Leading the UNESCO Chair on Sustainability team were:

  • Dr. Jordi Morató, Director of the UNESCO Chair on Sustainability and SureNexus Project Coordinator.

  • Mg. Olga Lucía Sánchez, Project Promoter at the UNESCO Chair on Sustainability and Deputy Technical Coordinator of the SureNexus Project.



Dr. Morató opened the session with a comprehensive overview of the project’s progress, highlighting key achievements and outlining strategic activities planned for the coming months. The discussions delved into critical topics, addressing administrative, financial, and management aspects to ensure the project’s smooth implementation and alignment with its goals.


A significant highlight was the introduction of the External Expert Advisory Board (EEAB), a five-member panel of distinguished experts tasked with providing strategic guidance and ensuring the project’s scientific and technical rigor. Their expertise is expected to play a pivotal role in shaping the project’s direction and outcomes.


The meeting reinforced the SureNexus project’s unwavering commitment to advancing sustainable solutions through collaboration, innovation, and evidence-based approaches. By fostering dialogue and aligning priorities, the session set a strong foundation for impactful developments in the months ahead, paving the way for transformative progress in addressing global sustainability challenges.
