Research, training, communication and cooperation are the main objectives of the new School.

The Agreement of Understanding aims to articulate the main actors of the Valle de Aburrá (Colombia) around scientific knowledge, innovation and technology for the sustainable development of the region that includes the municipalities of Barbosa, Girardota, Copacabana, Bello, Medellín, Envigado, Sabaneta, La Estrella, Itagüí and Caldas.
“We are grateful to contribute in this important project not only in basis to the scientific knowledge that is the main criteria of UNESCOSOST, we also appreciate the metropolitan region of the Aburrá Valley thanks to the work that (2010) we developed for the recovery through sustainability of the sector called Altos de Moravia, ”said Margarita Pacheco, member of the UNESCOSOST team in Colombia.
The UNESCO Chair joins the objective thanks to its extensive experience in the design and implementation of projects linked to the Sustainability of cities based on concepts such as Circular Economy, climate change adaptation and Nature-Based Solutions.
One of the main aspects mentioned in the first General Assembly of the Escuela de Ecología Urbana del Valle de Aburra, was the relevance of the Academy and its consequent dialogue between members of the local level, through which it is possible to design strategies of sustainable development. "We aim to create a route that allows us to draw an environmental education policy in the territory," said Eugenio Prieto Soto, director of the Metropolitan Area of the Aburrá Valley.
